Where's Open Space? + Roy Green's Commercial Alley Show

We've already featured Open Space artist run centre in a previous blog post as one of the participating locations in the 8th Annual Integrate Arts Festival, but we need another post just to highlight all the exciting programming they have in store for #Integrate2014 art crawlers next weekend!

Workshop: Thursday, August 14, 2014, 4:00–8:00 p.m.
Location: Open Space back entrance in Helmcken Alley
Mini-Show: Friday, August 15, 7:30-10:30 p.m., and Saturday, August 16, 12:00-5:00p.m.
Location: Open Space

Here's your opportunity to make your mark on the next chapter of development for Open Space Artist Run Centre. This multidisciplinary gallery and learning space is working to develop a new sign for its front doorstep and they're calling on all artists, graphic designers, wood workers, thinkers, makers, craft fiends and doers to help them out.

Where's Open Space? is described by the gallery as "one-part workshop and one-part show."

Materials to construct your front door sign design will be on-site at the workshop, but participants are encouraged to bring along their own supplies to help them materialize their vision for 510 Fort Street. For those with computer graphics talents, digital submissions will also be accepted, but they need to printed on 11"x17" paper (minimum) and delivered in person at the workshop.

Here's the best part: ALL contributors to the workshop will have their designs on display from August 15th and 16th during the festival. This is such a great opportunity for creatives to have a piece of their work up at Open Space and potentially contribute towards the future curb appeal of the gallery!

We are thrilled to learn that performance artist, painter, and poet Roy Green's work will be hanging in Commercial Alley during this year's Integrate Arts Festival! In fact, this exciting show will be opening on Friday August 15th at 7:30pm - right after our festival opening reception.

A partnership between The City of Victoria and Open Space Arts Society has recently transformed the alley into an outdoor public art gallery. You will be able to view the show featuring a four-panel quartet of local Vancouver Island bird species for the next 6 months on the west wall of the Youth Empowerment Society building.

Be sure to visit this exhibition and opening during the 8th Annual Integrate Arts Festival on Friday, August 15th and Saturday, August 16th.

Learn more about both of these events on Open Space's website at openspace.ca.
